The California Quail would make a great sidekick for the hero, a small harmless game bird. He will be the hero's navigator, his great at reading all the space charts and directing the hero to the nearest space station, but occasionally gets them lost in the process.
That crest would make a goofy hair style as well as keeping it punk like.
Now we are cooking! I can see this hapless little fellow, getting everyone hopelessly lost. Very nice idea
